Rafael Benitez: the Master of Rotation
Many have cited the way Rafael Benitez maintains his strategy as unorthodox but brilliant (as the two are often linked) and, while few are willing to take risks he did, all must admit that his particular brand of thinking it okay, take him to an impressive record. But what makes him seem so strange when compared to other coaches? What won it as many debates and admiration? It is very simple, really: he refuses to remain content.
Yes, yes, we know: all the best coaches want their teams and search. But at the same time, there is a certain level of vigilance that occurs when a team has success. Players and coaches will feel that their method has been improved and they should do nothing to change it. After all, why touch something that has proven its effectiveness?
They refuse to look at other ideas because they are anxious to destroy the success they have created.
Benitez is the opposite this. He looks happy to change. There is nobody who has a file that is constantly updated, fixed or completely reorganized as he does. And there is nobody who is more actively looking for new talent. As a coach, Benitez has a purpose, and that is to continually improve team. This may not be done, he said, without trying to find out who is available and see what they can do. This thinking is simple but aggressive, and marks him after his coaches various colleagues.
It focuses on the team, rather than a player. Much Teams have a certain "star" and try to build strategies around that person. Benitez does not work. Instead, it calls for teamwork and support. No player has a rank above another (if a star player or not), simply because it does nothing to help the overall goal of better and better. The players work best together, not separated by classifications that is supposed to be the best. And type of reflection on the boundaries of shocking the sports world, because few will dare to do.
But, in truth, Benitez has a common sense approach to football: a team can not think is perfect, there's always room for improvement, no player is guaranteed to be safe to change, and no player goes over the good of the team. With that, he managed to create a strategy that works … and succeeded.
